National Science Week - Shadow Investigations

Shadows
As part of National Science Week, the Year one neighbourhood investigate shadows.  The children wrote down what we already knew about shadows.

We know
  • ·         Shadows are made when we block the light.
  • ·         Shadows are made with sun and shade
  • ·         Shadows copy what you do
  • ·         A shadow doesn't have colour, only black
  • ·         As the sun is setting, shadows grow longer
  • ·         Shadows disappear in the dark
  • ·         Shadows inside are not as strong as outside.
  • ·         We can see a shadow on a wall

What we found out
  • ·         We can create shadows indoors with a strong light
  • ·         Shadow are not just black
  • ·         When the sun goes behind the clouds your shadow fades
  • ·         Sundials were used a long time ago
  • ·         Sundials were used a long time ago to tell the time

Due to swimming, some children did not get the opportunity to participate in science week activities but will do so next week.
