Mayatili Marika (Jacob’s mum) a lecturer at Melbourne
University came to talk to us about her heritage and tell us about where she
comes from Arnhem Land. One of the
important ways to pass on traditions and morals in Mayatili’s culture is through
story telling.
She showed us books written in her language, ‘yolnu matha’. The children read and said
some words in ‘yolnu matha’ and Myra read
an old traditional story, What made
Tillalik laugh, by Joanna Troughton.
We would really like to thank Mayatili for coming along and
talking to us and sharing her stories.
