ATTENTION REQUIRED - One-to-one Literacy Support Program

Dear Parent and Grandparent helpers,
We’re starting a new initiative, a one-to-one Literacy Support Program at PHPS, and we need your help. This is the perfect chance to be a part of our school community, and to make a real difference.
We need parents/grandparents or carers to volunteer one hour per week to come in and work one-to-one with students to help with literacy, especially reading and handwriting.
At this stage we are just asking for anyone interested in volunteering to come to an information session where we will explain the program in more detail. We will then run a training program to train volunteer helpers.
We understand how busy parents and grandparents are, but by volunteering just one hour per week (any hour that suits you), you can make a real difference to a student.
We’d love to get as many parents involved as possible, and look forward to meeting you at the information session in the library on Thursday May 7 at 9.00am.
If you are unable to make that session, please let us know and we can discuss the program informally.
If you are interested in participating in this initiative, please let Julie know in the office effemey.julie.a@edumail.vic.gov.au
Hope to see you then.
Thanks.

Learning Agreement - Comic Strip Group

The children choose an area in which they could retell their favourite story. The Learning Agreement provocations included, the animation group, the plays group, the comic strip group and the writing group. The children in the comic strip group, retold their favourite stories through comic strips, created their own comic strip and collaboratively created comic strip. They have focused on using various comics strip techniques, such as having a catchy title, using speech bubbles and sound effects and telling a story through pictures.

Circus Performance

The children have been vigorously practising their circus skills for the performances

Circus Performance Dates

Tuesday 28th April                   - Home group 1 Sia & 1Tomo
Wednesday 29th April              - Home group 1 Tash & 1 Tony

Circus tickets were sent home on Friday based on the ticket request forms that was sent out a week ago. Anyone who did not receive their tickets can see Julie in the office on Monday or Tuesday.

Numbers to the Tuesday performance, in particular, are extremely high, so we ask that anyone attending this performance night is a parent, grandparent or sibling. Children must not take seats until all adults are seated and any PHPS children who are not performing will need to be seated on the floor at the front of the gymnasium. All teachers will be actively supervising their home groups so supervision of children not performing needs to be met by parents please.

All performers must be dressed in black and they are encouraged to wear light footwear as these need to be stored by each home group teacher (logistically challenging!)

All performers need to be at school by 6:30 pm. I will email  information on drop off and pick up places for your child on Monday.

We encourage parents to be seated by 6.45pm to enjoy the pre-show entertainment.

Children will be given a special costume to place over their black clothes.

Learning Agreement - Play Group

The children choose an area in which they could retell their favourite story. The Learning Agreement provocations included, the animation group, the plays group, the comic strip group and the writing group. The children in the play group, drafted outlines of their plays, drew characters, developed characters through performance and wrote scripts. The play group will be preforming their plays to the neighbourhood this week.

‘Why do people share stories?’

As part of our inquiry on ‘Creativity’ and in particular our focused on how, Messages can be relayed and received through different forms of expression, the children have been developing key understandings on the various ways in which we express ourselves. We asked the children, ‘Why do people share stories?’ The children’s responses can be found outside Room 14.
