Visual Art: Term 4 News and Request

Image result for aleks danko art

This term in Visual Art students will explore the work of Aleks Danko and Melinda Harper. Aleks Danko has a forthcoming exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art and Melinda Harper has an exhibition currently showing there. In the beginning of the term, students will have the opportunity to design and print a comic interpretation of their own portrait, based on the work of Aleks Danko. Every student will be given a square of calico to print on, but they also have the opportunity to bring in a white T-shirt, calico bag or pillow case from home to print on as well. These should be bought in as soon as possible and I have advised students to keep them in their lockers until needed. If students do not want to bring in an item from home to print on, they will be given other opportunities to further develop their textile skills on the calico print.
Many thanks or all your help with this request, Hannah Rother-Gelder
Visual Art Co-Ordinator

Fruit Salad

As part of our Life Education experience the children will be making Fruit Salad to promote healthy eating.  Some of the other learning experiences that the children will be to involved in, will be, cutting fruit and making fractions and writing a procedural text.

  • We would appreciate if each student could bring to school a piece of fruit.
  • Tomo and Tessa's home-groups will be making fruit salad on Thursday morning between 9.00am and 11.00am.
  • Tash and Sia's home-groups will be making fruit salad on Friday afternoon between 12.00pm and 2.00pm.
  • We would greatly appreciate parent helpers for each session. Please inform your home-group teacher if you are available
  • If there are any allergies please let us know.
Thank you

The Year 1 Movie

The Year 1s have at last began filming their movie at the last week of term 3! With the help of our librarian Leigh, we have completed filming the scene in the library. The children took part in organizing the crew using the script, creating and managing props, managing and looking after the cast, operating the tripod and the camera and directing the shoot.

Shooting of the library scene

Students directing the scene and operating the camera.

We are now in the process of completing the sets for some of the animation and will be shooting this hopefully in the next coming weeks.

The models of the characters used for the animation.

We have been designing and painting the sets.

If any parents are able to help us with the setting up or shooting of the movie, please talk to Tomo who would be very appreciative of the help. This week we require help on building and painting of the sets and building of some props.

As part of our sun smart policy, we have remind children to bring to school their hat for Term 4.

Family stories

As part of our inquiry in Term 4, we continue to focus on Messages can be relayed and received through stories and in particular we are focusing on ‘Every family has a story to tell.’ Through this inquiry, we will be discussing how families have different stories to share and may come from different places around the world. It would be appreciated if children could bring to school a family photo (copy or you could email your photo to us) so we could start displaying some of the cultural and historical contexts of the families in the Year 1 neighbourhood.

Welcome back

Welcome back to all our year 1 community!
